Just because your graphics card is very good does not mean that it could not have problems. Try uninstalling, reinstalling, and updating your graphics card drivers. Scan memory for any errors. Could be a few problems. Maybe the cable provided has an issue - you could try it on a different device, if you have one. Make sure your computer has USB 3.0 ports, and make sure the drivers are up to date. You can look up your computer model and go to the manufacture site for the official drivers. Try different USB ports if the computer has more than one. Often the ports on the desktop front connect to a less-reliable 3rd-party USB controller, while the ones on the back of a desktop go straight to the standard Intel controller.

Your PC may require cleaning, modern CPUs (the device that handles all the processing) tend to have a sensor inside them that will cause the device to shut off if it becomes too hot. Cleaning out the computer of dust and debris may solve this issue. If you are not familiar with cleaning a computer, there are professional repair shops that can do this. If you intend to clean it yourself, keep in mind that you must not use a vacuum cleaner or cloths, as this can generate static electricity which could damage the components. The use of anti static brushes should do the trick.

Videos take a lot of capacity to run them, especially in memory (RAM). That is why it freezes too because of the lack of RAM in your computer. Once you install a greater RAM by gigs, the more space you'll have to run those movies. C++ is a program it has nothing to do with freezing. It would be better for your computer if you don't run the movie in your laptop but in a standard player.
